Trentina is an open source MCP gateway that sits between AI agents and everything they touch, including MCP servers, the web, Matrix, LLM providers, and monitoring alerts. I built it for anyone running agents that touch live systems, where handing a model raw access to internal tools creates real operational risk. Every agent connects to one endpoint and gets its own profile, which defines what that agent can see, what tools it can call, and how its traffic gets scrubbed. The project is AGPL-3.0-or-later, and it ships as a container image at quay.io/crunchtools/trentina, which means there is no PyPI package to track and you run it like any other service. I named it after an old maritime quarantine practice, because the core idea is identical: commerce keeps moving, and nothing dangerous gets in.
